Finance Director
Finance Director –Construction
We are seeking a highly capable and commercially focused Finance Director to lead the finance function of a successful construction business and specifically target growth.The Finance Director will act as a member of the senior leadership team, providing strategic financial leadership to support sustainable growth, profitability, risk management and long-term business planning.
The role requires a technical accountant with proven construction or project-based finance experience, coupled with the ability to operate at both strategic and operational levels. New business and growth is the main agenda, supporting the MD.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development and growth of a high-calibre finance team.
- Take ownership of the annual budgeting cycle and rolling forecasts, including scenario planning.
- Oversee project accounting, contract margins, revenue recognition, WIP, variations and claims, and cash conversion on contracts.
- Contribute to strategic planning, investment appraisal, business case development and growth initiatives.
- Deliver monthly management accounts and financial insights to senior and executive leadership.
- Manage treasury operations, banking relationships, working capital and capital allocation decisions.
- Assess financial risk on major contracts, tenders and commercial negotiations, and provide oversight throughout.
- Champion improvements to financial systems, reporting tools and internal processes.
Requirements
- Strong grounding in financial modelling and working capital management.
- Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA).
- Familiarity with construction contract revenue recognition principles.
- Comfortable working with ERP systems such as Microsoft Business Central or similar platforms.
- Background in construction or another project-based industry or manufacturing.
- At least 8 years' relevant post-qualification experience.
- Hands-on experience with project accounting and WIP management.
